Tea Ceremony

*What I love about the tea ceremony is.......& a season tidbit.

The "Tea Ceremony" or in Japanese "Chado"literally the tea road or the casual terminology "Ocha" which means tea.

The importance of tea started about 800 years ago in China and the tea ceremony was born.

Generally you think of macha, the powdered tea as the tea ceremony, its present form is based on the teachings of Sen Rikyu in the 1500's.

There is another style, which is not so well known which uses the dried leaves sen cha, it is realitively young about 150 years old.

I chose to study with the Ura Senke school because it is visually beautiful and it is a large school with invested international interest. It is one of the three schools which are descendants from Sen Rikyu.

Sen Soshitsu runs the Ura Senke
